Tennessee Senator Todd Gardenhire’s racist remarks are drawing national attention. Moreover, Tennessee Speaker, and Republican leader, McNally is defending instead of condemning the remarks. This shows where Tennessee Republicans are on racial equality-they don’t get it because they don’t understand it.
Here is what Gardenhire said according to ABC News:
“The obesity rate in the inner city is bigger than anywhere else. Because ... they go to a 7-Eleven or a convenience store, there’s fried chicken so they get them some fried chicken on the way home and have dinner on that. Well, that’s the worst thing you can eat..”
The inner city in Chattanooga is largely black, so in reality Gardenhire believes “black folk” eat “mo chickin” and they “git fat.”
If Gardenhire’s comments are not racist then what are they, a reflection of compassion and understanding? Moreover, the Republican leadership is turning a blind eye to this insensitive racist statement about black people in the inner city.
Gardenhire doesn’t stop with his “eat mo chickin” attitude, he goes on to say if Cops know certain people in the community they should give them a break when they are drinking and driving.
ABC reports: “Do you throw them in jail for the rest of your life? No. You say, ‘Look, we’re gonna take you home. Don’t do this again. I know your momma. I know your daddy...”
So, Gardenhire thinks blacks “eat mo fried chicken” than whites leading to poor health. He also thinks that if someone knows your “daddy” you should get special treatment. Both attitudes show Gardenhire is seriously prejudiced and seriously infected with a special favor attitude because we know your daddy. Gardenhire just revealed who he is...
An old white republican who is out of touch with the realities of the world in which people actually live.
He is an old white racist too.
