Donald Trump loves to claim his great work has made the economy great again. Has it?
Data show '[t]he average quarterly economic growth under Trump, 2.5 percent, was almost exactly what it was under Obama in the second term, 2.4 percent." Therefore, data show that Trump had little to do with making the economy great again. Trump inherited a good economy. Moreover, the trends had little to do with the Trump presidency.
(NBC) “Data show Trump didn't 'build' a great economy. He inherited it.
The average quarterly economic growth under Trump, 2.5 percent, was almost exactly what it was under Obama in the second term, 2.4 percent.
Trump’s tax cuts and his other claims taking credit for the economy really had little to do with the economy. Like those before him he likes to take the claim for something he has little to do with.
If you compare key economic indicators from Barack Obama’s second term in office to the first three years of Trump’s time (that is, before the pandemic hit), the data show a continuation of trends, not a dramatic shift. It suggests Trump didn’t build something new; rather he inherited a pretty good situation...
A president taking credit for the economy is nothing new, of course. It’s a time-honored tradition in politics. And there are parts of the economy that Trump can rightfully celebrate. But the idea that the president somehow rescued a nation that was struggling economically when he arrived simply isn’t borne out in the data.
If Trump is re-elected, he would not be rebuilding the economy again; he would be taking on a new task he did not face when he first arrived in Washington. He might be the right person for that job, but there is little evidence in his record as president that says he is.”
Right now, it is propaganda to claim that Trump made the economy great again. The trends in any claimed improvement span back to the Obama presidency. Trump's actions or inactions have little to do with the economy and any growth that occurred before the pandemic.

All the president is, is a glorified public relations man who spends his time flattering, kissing, and kicking people to get them to do what they are supposed to do anyway.
